"STEPPING INTO THE REALM OF MYSTERY": ON LESZEK MĄDZIK'S THEATER

Summary/Abstract: The author of the article describes the creative path of Leszek Mądzik, founder of Scena Plastyczna KUL, while pointing to the anthropological aspect of his artistic activities. He discusses Mądzik's specific approach to structuring the stage space and analyzes the role image, light, and music played in his productions. The author emphasizes that all the means of artistic expression Mądzik used were designed to serve the scrutiny of the mystery of man, his existential condition perceived from the perspective of transcendence, and cites different attempts at defining the nature of Mądzik's theater which, however, falls outside any definition and occupies a unique place in contemporary culture.
