Summary/Abstract: The Roman expansion to the Danube marked the beginning of a period of permanent contact with both branches of the Sarmatian populations north of the Danube: the Iazyges and the Roxolani. Interactions continued even after Aurelian's retreat, being strongly influenced by the settlement of the Goths in the region. This article aims to analyze Roman-Sarmatian relations after the Roman retreat from Dacia, all this in the context of the Sarmatian decline caused by the aforementioned appearance of the Goths. The study offers a new interpretation of aspects such as the origin of the Taifals or the structure of the Argaragant and Limigant factions. By its nature, this research is based on a comparative analysis of information provided by narrative sources, the approach being a qualitative one. The results of previous studies are not neglected, including the works of Victor Spinei and Dumitru Protase. Also, the research benefits from the historical innovations brought about by past historiographical trends such as the Vienna School.
