Summary/Abstract: This essay proposes a comparative reading of several major mythical and cultural narratives, from the Epic of Gilgamesh to Ingmar Bergman’s film The Seventh Seal, which share a common core: the human confrontation with death, immortality, and the meaning of existence. Beyond differences of period and artistic form, these works articulate distinct expressions of a fundamental experience. They reveal the tragic and lucid ways in which humans engage with their ontological limits.
