Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes comprehension and interpretation as complementary processes of literary reading, highlighting the dynamics of meaning formation in the relationship between reader and text. Comprehension is presented as a fundamental stage, based on inferences and the integration of partial meanings, while interpretation involves rereading, methodical analysis, and the negotiation of meanings through procedures such as assimilation, symbolic manipulation, and multiple inference. The affective and cognitive dimensions decisively influence the reception of the work, while linguistic and cultural competencies determine the quality of interpretation. From an educational perspective, the article emphasizes the importance of developing literary competence through modern teaching strategies and by valuing active, critical, and reflective reading. Interpretation is conceived as an advancement of knowledge and as a bridge between the text, the author, and the reader.
