A TREATISE ON JIBREEL’S APPEARANCE IN HUMAN FORM BY ABDULAH BOŠNJAK

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents a previously unstudied treatise entitled Risāla fī bayān tamaṯṯul al-Ğibrīl fī ṣūra al-bašar / Treatise on Jibreel’s Manifestation in Human Form. The treatise, composed in Arabic, was authored by the renowned Bosnian scholar Shaykh Abdulah Bošnjak (Ar. ʿAbdullāh Busnawī), widely known in the scholarly tradition as Šāriḥ al-Fuṣūṣ, the commentator of Ibn ʿArabī’s Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam. The introductory section of the paper provides general information about the author and his scholarly and literary oeuvre, followed by a presentation of the manuscript codex in which the treatise is preserved. Ultimately, for the first time in the domestic scholarly literature, the Arabic text of the treatise is offered—accompanied by the textual variants found in other manuscript copies, listed in the footnotes— together with its unabridged translation into Bosnian.
