Summary/Abstract: This paper is written in the memory of Besim Korkut (1904-1975) on the fiftieth anniversary of his death. It focuses on the documents surrounding three editions of his translation of the Qur’an from 1977 to 1992 by three different publishers. The paper first zooms in on the context and process behind Korkut’s translation of the Qur’an in socialist Yugoslavia from 1965 to 1975: the search for the publisher, as well as the reviewers of the work. The main body of the article, then, focuses on the changes in the translation published by the Council of Elders of the Islamic Community (1984), as well as the edition by the King Fahd Complex in Medina in 1992. The article is based on published testimonies of Besim Korkut and his contemporaries Kasim Dobrača (1910-1979) and Husein Đozo (1912-1982), and thus its main aim is to commemorate Korkut’s death and remind the readership of the significance of his work. It also briefly refers to some other editions of Korkut’s translation.
