Summary/Abstract: The syllogism is an operation which transforms a linear system of n terms (n is a finite number), into a circular system. A syllogistic mood is valid if the conclusion quantifier is determined by the quantifier of a premise. If C is the quantifier of determining premise, there are two kinds of conclusions, with the quantifiers „More than Cs are p” = C + sp or „Less than Cs are p” = C - sp. A basic mood with a C + conclusion obeys the following rules: 1) Only determining premise can be different of a universal-negative; 2) Both occurrences of the determining premise terms have the same quality; 3) The occurrences of any other term have different qualities. The C - basic moods follow the rules (1) and (3), while the rule (2) must be replaced through: Both occurrences of the conclusion terms have the same quality. From the basic moods, the other valid syllogistic moods may be reached using substitution, conversion or obversion.
