Summary/Abstract: As part of the “post-March emigration,” some 13,000 Jews left Poland, declaring Israel as their destination. However, less than thirty percent of the emigrants actually arrived there. The rest ended up in various European countries (especially Scandinavian) or in the US and Canada. Many emigrants tried to settle as close to Poland as possible with the hope that they would be able to return. Meanwhile, regardless of where they settled, travel to Poland was not possible for a long time. In the 1970s and 1980s, a small number of March emigrants visited Poland. The purpose of this article is to reconstruct their experience of return based on the interviews they gave.
