Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author reflects on the performance and moral dilemmas correlated with modes of operation in unarmed combat in defence against physical aggression. Based on empirical data, the author demonstrates differences in defensive actions depending on causal factors such as the orientation of aggression (the respondent, a bystander) and biological characteristics, as well as personal predispositions and professional experiences of the respondents. The author concludes by stating that the morality of defensive actions is determined to the highest degree by the orientation of aggression. A much greater proportion of the respondents declared that they would take defensive actions considered as commendable in a situation of personal threat than in the case of a threat to a stranger.
