Summary/Abstract: One hundred years ago, on February 15, 1925, the Czechoslovak Center of the International PEN Club was founded in the Prague Café Louvre. This happened thanks to Karel Capek, who was its chairman for seven years. After him, Anna Marie Tilschova took over this position. However, in 1938, our PEN Club was banned from operating, which was repeated after 1948; except for a short relaxation in the second half of the 1960s, when Adolf Ho meister was the chairman. Although the Czechoslovak PEN Club was not officially abolished, which resulted from its international status, its activities were prevented in various ways; according to Ivan Klíma, it was dormant. It was only restored in 1989, when the writer Jirí Mucha briefly became its first chairman, followed by Ivan Klíma and then Jirí Stránský... So the centenary of our founding is in common with the Slovak PEN Club.
