Summary/Abstract: The role of communication in the development of a child‘s personality is well-documented, with the process of communication itself serving as a means of building relationships, expressing feelings, needs, and desires. Nonetheless, in instances where communication skills are impaired, this has a detrimental effect on the child‘s overall well-being. Consequently, it is imperative to explore augmentative and alternative communication procedures, options and technologies that could facilitate or substitute for communication. Information and communication technologies (ICT) have been demonstrated to be of significant assistance in the implementation of augmentative or alternative communication (AAC). The present paper deals with ICS in children with hydrocephalus. This diagnosis arises from damage to the central nervous system (CNS) and is often associated with impairments in the receptive or expressive plane of speech. Consequently, ICT can be a significant contributor to the development of AAC in children with hydrocephalus. The objective of the present contribution is to provide an overview of some ICTs that are utilised and are effective for the purpose of building communication.
