Determinants of implementing sustainable development in tourism destination

Summary/Abstract: The article presents a review of factors influencing possibilities of implementing sustainable development in tourism destinations. The major determinants are divided into exogenous, endogenous and related to knowledge and ecological awareness. Exogenous factors are first of all the law and administrative system and the economic level of the country. The endogenous factors are the strategy of local development and the level of democracy in a tourism destination. Special attention is given to the impact of ecological awareness and knowledge about relationship between tourism development and sustainable development.
