Summary/Abstract: The present study examines the scarce data regarding the settlements and civil structures of two highly representative regions for Greek insular history and art: the Cycladic Archipelago and the Island of Crete. The research focuses on the Early Bronze Age, a period in which, despite the limited number of excavated Cycladic settlements and dwellings, the archaeological remains record the transition of these islands from Prehistory to the emergence of the first urban centers. Conversely, in Crete, this period is more comprehensively documented, showcasing a continuous and significant evolution – from simple dwellings with irregular rooms in the early stages of the Early Bronze Age to the architectural developments that foreshadow the monumental palatial architecture. Illustrative case studies are employed to support the analysis of both regions, providing insights into their respective urban planning and architectural characteristics.
