Summary/Abstract: Compared with the naturalism of classical Roman portraiture, Late Antiquity brings initially the need to restore inner feelings, but this transformation will be immediately followed by the geometrized style of the age of Constantine the Great that will predict the schematization of the end of Late Antiquity: Paleo-Christianity, with spiritualization and lack of individualization and then even the abstraction would characterize now the whole iconography.
