Summary/Abstract: The world of the 2020s is undergoing a continuous systemic transformation. While the shift from bipolarism of the Cold War to the unipolar moment of the 1990s was swift, rapid, and clearly denied by the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the shift towards multilateralism is caused by complex factors with unclear outcomes. Where the unilateral world was to be governed by a single set of rules, the multipolar future is much less stable. This is irrespective of whether we understand the rise of new powers as a consequence of the weakening of the West or rather as a result of the strengthening of the others (Zakaria, 2008)
