Summary/Abstract: In the group of fifty authors who have been inspired by Njegoš’s poetry and prose there are some most important names of the history of Serbian music. Among the authors who have recently composed are Dejan Despić, academician of the SASA and Žarko Mirković, academician of the MASA, but also some completely new names like Aleksandar Perunović, Nina Perović, Tatjana Prelević, who lives and works in Germany, then Marko Rogošić and others. Some compositions were commissioned to be performed at the grand celebration in Podgorica in April 2013. New works “shift” our previous views expressed in our book “Njegoš and Music” (2001) and enrich the topic we have been dealing with for several decades. This paper gives an overview of previous compositions from the 19th century to the present, as well as specific reviews of the latest works created in our century. This topic is not exhausted, it is permanently open, because the vitality of Njegoš’s work is permanent and remains an inspiration to both old and young authors. Openness to modern forms of visual and musical expression was also an evidence of the inspiration by Njegoš’s work and its applicability to modern forms and new means of artistic expression.
