Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes speeches and essays of Matija Bećković about Njegoš, certain Njegoš’s poetic fragments and several Bečković’s poems with the intent to specify inter¬textual fields and relations between works of Njegoš and Bećković. The analyses showed that Bećković’s ideas expressed in his essays and speeches highly correspond to the ideas in his poems. Both Njegoš and Bećković relied on Serbian Byzantine tradition, folk poetry and Kosovo testament, and especially on the depth of linguistic memory, but also on humor creation, satirical focus and thematization of the evil on Earth, and the necessity of resisting evil and tyranny. The differences come from the nature of individual talent, but chiefly from the fact that Njegoš sings from the very heart of the heroic epic world and his own value system, while Bećković sees the world in decay, dissolution and dis¬integration.
