Summary/Abstract: The article proposes an insight into the art of the European illustration of the sec. 19th and 20th centuries, how they interacted with the texture and visual solutions that the artists of those times discovered and developed. I focused my interest on a well-known story in the eastern European region, The Glove, a story in Ukrainian folklore, in this case the book illustration for children and illustrators, illustrating over time this story, considering that the school of illustration is relevant from that period, for research on the above-mentioned topic. The Art of Illustration after the 20th Century and the 21st Century, characterized by breaking the norms of classicism, and a new way through the redefinition of new space and chromatic units. The book illustration area for children is enriched by new attributes: shape, color or line. The book illustration of this period has a special charm due to the hand-drawn illustration. Stories from Eastern Europe sometimes have a common core, given by good neighborliness, hospitality, and generosity. The resulting icon-text, -a mixture of image and text- delights young readers with book pages full of flavor and color.
