Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the maladic discourse in two Bosnian writers’ works: Kingdom of Shadows [Carstvo sjenki] by Jasna Šamić (born 1949) and Call me Esteban [Zovite me Esteban] by Lejla Kalamujić (born 1980). The common feature of these texts is t he presence of the motif of illness. However, the motif is used in a different way because the disease is described from different perspectives. Both texts use autobiographical elements. This approach corresponds with the tendencies common in contemporary literature focused on mal adic themes. It is their way to create intimacy in the literary text. Illness (someone else’s or one’s own) becomes a creative impulse.
