Summary/Abstract: Public data and media reports indicate that religious places of worship are potential targets for terrorist acts. Theincreasing number of terrorist attacks targeting places of worship and representatives of different religious communities highlightsthe urgent need to identify effective strategies to combat and prevent such incidents. When considering ways to minimise the riskof a terrorist incident, security measures are often focused on the protection of buildings and their surroundings. However, otherforms of religious worship, such as pilgrimages, present unique challenges and require specific attention due to their distinctcharacteristics. The authors intend to answer the research questions: What potential risks arise when organised groups travelto religious sites? What security gaps have been identified in such contexts? And what good practices can be recommendedto ensure the safety of participants while preserving the essence of religious observance?
