Summary/Abstract: This analysis highlights the importance of European parliamentary cooperation during Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2025. On the basis of the powers derived from the EU Treaties, interparliamentary cooperation practices, and national law, the Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland play an active role in shaping EU positions, while strengthening democratic oversight and transparency of the Union’s actions. The Presidency provides an opportunity to intensify dialogue with the parliaments of the other EU Member States and the EU institutions, within established meeting formats – such as the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union, the Interparliamentary Conference on the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy, and the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol – as well as at additional events hosted by the parliament of the country holding the Presidency. The monitoring of particular EU policies and the development of cooperation in the areas of security, defence, economy, and digital transformation – alongside the scrutiny of compliance with the principle of subsidiarity – remain some of the main objectives of cooperation among the parliaments of the EU Member States. Through its active involvement in actualising the parliamentary dimension of the Presidency, the Polish Parliament enhances its institutional capacity and its role within the European political arena.
