Summary/Abstract: The tripartite system of functions of the structure of Indo-European myths by Georges Dumezil, at one time represented a revolutionary discovery among devotees of non-mythological theories. As a comparative mythologist, Dumezil proved how the scheme of every mythical division of gods in one of the Indo-European mythologies can be reduced to exactly three functions, inherited from the proto-Indo-European community: the religious function, the warrior function and the fertility function. The aim of this work is to situate Dumezil’s approach to myth in a certain context of the study of myth, which precedes Dumezil’s work and follows from it.
