Between the Ghetto and Heaven, or the Last Performance in Janosz Korczak’s Orphanage

Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt at a historical and anthropological reconstruction of the last production of Rabindranath Tagore’s play „The Post Office”, which took place at Janusz Korczak’s orphanage in the Warsaw ghetto in July 1942. It also shows hitherto unknown threads related to that event and shows the context in which the orphanage operated in the last months before the transportation to Treblinka.
