Summary/Abstract: The town of Belene is one of the settlements in the Nikopol Catholic Diocese with a rich church history. There are two Catholic parishes in the village, which are served by Passionist fathers. They are responsible for the spiritual revival of the parishes over the past 30 years. The priests are the basis of var-ious religious, educational and social initiatives, which significantly improve pastoral activity among the faithful. Undoubtedly, one of the most important events in the entire history of the Roman Catholic Church in Bulgaria is the beatification of the bishop of the Passionist order, Evgeny Bosilkov, who on March 15, 1998 was proclaimed „blessed“ by Pope John Paul II during the Holy Liturgy, celebrated in the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome. Belene is the birthplace of Evgeny Bosilkov. This is the reason why the sanc-tuary dedicated to him was created there. The Passionist Fathers made the greatest contribution to the popularization of the person and his work. It is also their merit that the sanctuary became a place of worship for Catholics in Bulgaria, especially on November 16, the date of birth of the martyr bishop.
