Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study presented in this article was to determine the relationship between demographics and housing development. The study used the indicator method to determine the level of demographic potential and the level of housing. The subject of the study was the largest cities with district rights in terms of population in the Upper-Silesia Basin Metropolis. Clearly, there is a strong correlation between the demographic situation and housing development. It is a two-way relationship, but a very complicated one. It is important for improvement of the demographic situation in a city to provide its residents with a variety of options for meeting their housing needs. In cities with high demographic potential, the proportion of socially rented housing is higher. Ensuring an adequate supply of rented housing with moderate rents, designed primarily for young people, will have a positive impact on the demographic situation by encouraging residents to start a family and refrain from moving to other cities.
