Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present and assess the level of housing development in themunicipalities that make up Metropolis GZM. The study analyzes the spatial variation of the housingdevelopment index and documents changes in the housing situation since the establishment of theMetropolis GZM in 2017. An indicator-based method is used to determine the level of housing de-velopment. The data utilized in the study are sourced from the Local Data Bank and housing marketreports published by the National Bank of Poland. The results indicate that the Metropolis GZM isdominated by municipalities with a high or medium level of housing development, which accountfor 51.2% of the municipalities in the metropolitan area. The two best-performing sub-regions interms of housing development are Bytomski and Gliwicki. Approximately 17% of municipalities havea low level of housing development. A positive trend is the increase in the housing development levelin municipalities surrounding the metropolis, which has reached the level of municipalities in themetropolitan core by 2022. Rural municipalities have shown a significant increase in housing devel-opment over the six years studied. Municipalities with a low level of housing development are char-acterized, among other things, by insufficient results in housing construction, particularly in the areasof social and municipal housing. The highest level of housing development is found in municipalitiesfocused on improving housing standards and implementing social rental housing.
