Summary/Abstract: The „Gheorghe Dobreanu” Choir of the Historic Cathedral of Caransebeș was founded in 1924, and on October 29, 1924, the choir gave the responses at its first Divine Liturgy on the occasion of King Carol II of Romania's birthday. Several conductors have been at the helm of the choir, given its long history. Among them were cultural personalities such as Prof. Antoniu Secvens, Prof. Constantin Vladu, Prof. Petru Bancea, Prof. Dimitrie Cuzma, Prof. Emil Rădescu, Prof. Gheorghe Dobreanu, Prof. Carmen Cioablă, Prof. Dumitru Jompan, and Prof. Maria Ponețchi. For 21 years, from 1975 to 1996, the choir was conducted by Prof. Gheorghe Dobreanu. Due to this fact and because he left a strong impression and artistic legacy, this religious music ensemble took the name of „Gheorghe Dobreanu” Choir of the Historical Cathedral of Caransebeș.
