Summary/Abstract: St. Leonard (Leonhard) of Limoges or Noblat was a renowned hermit and is among the most revered saints of the Alpine region. Refusing the episcopal dignity, Leonard preferred to live in a monastery and to help the needy, especially those released from prison. His veneration spread widely in the West after the 11th century, and for many centuries, pilgrimages to churches dedicated to him were the largest in Germany. St Leonard is celebrated annually on November 6 in the Orthodox, Catholic, and Anglican Churches.
