Summary/Abstract: This study presents source materials regarding the genesis and impact of the three-volume work Erdély története [History of Transylvania] edited by Béla Köpeczi. These documents are primarily found within the records of the cultural administration, and to a lesser extent, in the archives of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The research does not aim for a comprehensive disclosure of diplomatic activities, nor does it attempt to examine the documents held in the Archives of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA)—specifically those from the Institute of History, which served as the editorial hub—or the records of the Akadémiai Kiadó (the publishing house of MTA). For these reasons, the information presented here is considered „contributions.” Furthermore, a „bilateral” topic of this nature can only be fully processed and described through the exploration of Romanian source materials. The publication of this book forty years ago was not only a watershed moment in Hungarian–Romanian relations; it remains, to this day, arguably the Hungarian historical publication that has triggered the greatest international response.
