Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the functional communication barriers that people with disabilities may face at today's airports. According to a US research report conducted by the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) in approximately 2021 at 16 major airports in the United States, people with disabilities continue to have problems moving freely through airports, despite the procedures and facilities in place. The compiled report identifies the main groups of problems affecting both the airports themselves and the airlines serving passengers. the article is based on an analysis of a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report outlining the problems of people with disabilities at airports and other documents related to the compiled report. the biggest problem faced by the airports themselves in addressing accessibility for people with disabilities is the outdated infrastructure of the airports. In addition, the size of the airport also has a significant impact on what issues need to be addressed. Large, complex airports struggle with how to help people with disabilities navigate the complex functional structures of the airport. Airlines, too, have their own problems in dealing with people with disabilities. As shown in the report, the airlines' problems are either systemic or related to staff training.
