Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the application of measures and initiatives for modernizing the operations of the Customs Administration of the Republic of Serbia in accordance with global customs and trade standards. The main goal of this paper is to identify and provide suggestions for the best way to conduct customs business practices. The research aims to identify specific objectives by recognizing factors that contribute the most to the speed of the customs procedure, factors that can be controlled through timely document preparation and precise goods declaration, as well as the origin of goods and customs tariffs. The research is divided into two parts. The first part consults statistical data from regulatory and supervisory bodies, while the second part involves field research through a survey. The data processing was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics software. Survey questionnaires were collected from March to July 2024. Responses from 89 respondents were accepted for analysis. The questionnaire was constructed using a five-point Likert scale. While this sample may not be fully representative, it is still sufficiently informative as it allows conclusions to be drawn regarding the impact of factors. To analyze the relationship between a metric variable and multiple independent variables, we applied multiple regression. Our estimates reveal the impact of dependent factors: type of goods, origin of goods, purpose of goods, documentation, customs tariff, goods inspection, payment of costs, and protection against trafficking of prohibited goods whose trade is restricted or banned, on the speed and efficiency of the customs procedure. The research results indicate that the main priority for improving the operations of the customs administration should be directed towards alignment with international standards and institutional frameworks, as well as fostering and enhancing employee motivation within the administration.
