Summary/Abstract: The subject of this text is a comparison of two concepts of the state, both of which share a common origin in subjective idealism. The theories of Arthur Schopenhauer and Johann Gottlieb Fichte—two of the most important post-Kantian representatives of subjective idealism—will be examined. It will also be indicated which other views their ideas correspond with. The concepts of both philosophers will then be classified according to Michael Oakeshott's framework – identified as either 'the politics of faith' or 'the politics of skepticism'.
