Plans for the following school year had also been made, however, it was the school year when the High school in Bitola started operating within the borders of the Kingdom of Serbia because Bitola had been freed from Turkish authorities. The first principal of the Serbian Men’s High school in Bitola was Sava Jakić, the teacher from the Seminary of Prizren. It was a four-grade junior high school which directly influenced the increase in number of Serbian primary schools in the Bitola vilayet. After finishing this school, the students could continue their studies in Serbian high schools in Skopje and Salonica. During the high school’s existence, there had worked 57 teachers (Kosta F. Kovačević, Aleksa Jovanović, Jerotije Topalović, Aleksandar Marić, Grigorije Božović, Petar Kosović, Svetozar Tomić et al.). The teachers were educational but also national workers. A board called “Serbian defence” was formed in Bitola and it prepared the Serbs’ defence from the armed attacks (1904). The high school teachers were the creators of this organization. In Bitola, there was also the three-year Girls Workers School (1897–1910).
