Summary/Abstract: The army of the Kingdom of Serbia liberated Banja Luka on November 21st 1918. The Serbian army was ceremoniously welcomed throughout Bosanska Krajina. Social and political circumstances in Banja Luka were specific in relation to the rest of the country. Local authorities conducted completely independent policy that was not in line with demands of the government in Sarajevo. One of the most important tasks of the new local authorities was to secure peaceful withdrawal of the Austro-Hungarian army from the country. On November 27th 1918, Banja Luka declared direct union with Serbia. Agrarian riots that took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina also affected Bosanska Krajina. Christian peasants stopped paying taxes and they were destroying property of Muslim landowners. Shortly after 96 В. Стошић, „Извјештај среског начелника Ђорђа Крстића о стању у Бањалуци након the end of the war, the first political parties were founded in Banja Luka, mostly on national basis. One official report from 1920 shows that Serbs accepted Yugoslav state much better than other nations in Banja Luka.
