Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the use of the construction k+D in Njegoš’s language on the bases of selected works. In order to gain a full impression on Njegoš’s language we presented this linguistic phenomenon in the Proto-Slavic language, then the processes in the history of Serbian as well as in dialects, and we compared them with Njegoš’s language. As the material has shown, the construction k+D is very frequently used by Njegoš. It is dominantly used with the verbs of motion when the focus is the endpoint of the movement, as well as with non-transitive motion verbs and bi-transitive verbs where the dative is the case of the second object. K+D is used as a dominant means to express various object relations, as a verb complement or, even more frequently, the complement of other word classes (most often deverbal noun) which are used to express an attitude, mood or state. The construction k+D is used occasionally with verbs of speaking. Njegoš’s language shows no influence of other case constructions which would later replace the k+D construction in the contemporary Serbian literary language.
