Summary/Abstract: In the contemporary world, the concept of national identity is increasingly losing its significance. Within the processes of globalization and the transformation of institutional values, it seeks its place within the individual personality amid a multiplicity of paths and influences. Educational institutions bear a substantial responsibility for the formation of patriotism among Bulgarian students; however, a comprehensive and coherent conceptual framework in this regard is lacking. The content-based conceptual model of the academic course “Philosophy of Patriotism” is oriented toward establishing the necessary foundation for the formation and development of national identity and a sense of belonging – an aspect notably absent from contemporary school education. Philosophical theories are interpreted across all other academic disciplines, not as factual components of their curricula, but as value-oriented models of behavior. In this way, interdisciplinarity contributes to the achievement of the overarching goal: through the development of transversal competencies, it fosters national identity and patriotism.
