Summary/Abstract: Allgemeine Slawische Zeitung (Overall Slavic Newspapers) was published in the German language in Vienna from 18 July to 21 October 1848 with the motto “Democracy − Federation of Free Nations”. It was edited by the Czech Heinrich Terebelski, a writer and linguist. The Newspapers supported left-wing politics. Concerning the national liberation movements in the Habsburg Monarchy in 1848, it advocated the concept of the Czech liberals − Austro-Slavism, formulated in April and adopted by the Slavic Congress in Prague on 2 June. Austro-Slavism was a program of the reorganization of the Habsburg Monarchy, on a constitutional basis, into a federal state of equal nations. Expressing sincere solidarity and compassion with the Serbian people during the difficult political and armed struggle of 1848, the Newspapers in its numerous articles tried to point out the true character, motives, and goals of the Serbs and Hungarians in the war. It spoke about the Serbs and South Slavs, about the Hungarian policy towards the Slavic peoples, about the goals of the Serbian People’s Movement in 1848, the causes of the Serbian-Hungarian war, and the events of the war. It collaborated with the Serbian and Croatian newspapers, taking over articles from Srbske novine, Vestnik, Slavenski Jug, and Agramer Zeitung. It had numerous correspondents, Serbs, Croats, and Czechs. The Newspapers managed to give a comprehensive overview and express the views of the Czech liberals, Serbs, and Croats who contributed to it, on the most important issues of the Slavic and Serbian national movements in 1848.
