Summary/Abstract: In the paper, the author indicates some terms, as well as interpretations of historical events that lately appear more and more often in historiographical works. The name “Prečani” is used as a designation for Serbs in former Austria, Southern Hungary, and today’s Vojvodina. The name is used massively and consistently in the works of historians in Vojvodina. The author notes that the name was created as a derogatory term in a different time, in a different environment and circumstances, and concludes that its modern application is neither logical nor justified. The orthography classifies it as colloquial and derogatory, and there is no justification for its use in scientific works. Another issue is the interpretation of the state-legal character of the Voivodeship of Serbia and Banat of Temeschwar, founded at the end of 1849 as a special temporarily organized administrative area. In Serbian historiography, the majority of writers considered that the Voivodeship of Serbia and Banat of Temeschwar did not have the status of a crown, while some historians from Vojvodina, in addition to using the name “prečani”, also emphatically and often designate the Voivodeship of Serbia and Banat of Temeschwar as a crown. The analysis of Austrian sources, legal acts which determined the status of the Voivodeship clearly demonstrate that it had neither the status of a crown nor autonomy. The duration of Voivodeship of Serbia and Banat of Temeschwar coincides with the time of absolutism in the Habsburg Monarchy. The author points to insufficient knowledge of basic legal terms and principles, which contributes to inadequate interpretation of Austrian legal historical sources. Both – the “prejudiced” and unfounded declaration of the Voivodeship as a Crown and the existence of autonomy deepens provincial differences with arguments that have no scientific basis and justification and contribute to the divisions of the Serbian people.
