Summary/Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of the dramatic oeuvre of Momčilo Nastasijević, his four plays that thematize incest as an archetype that is transformed into an aesthetic concept, necessary to create a modern drama that corresponds to the Serbian folk tradition, but also to the European literature of Nastasijević’s time. The interpretation of the dramas The Treasure of Međulužje (1923), At “The Eternal Tap” (1936), Unredeemable (1924; 1930) and Lord-Mladen’s Daughter (1931) is given in a comparative perspective, which indicates the wider importance of Nastasijević as a playwright of the Serbian and European interwar period. In the introductory part of the paper, we showed Nastasijević’s views on dramatic literature written in Serbia at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the concept of maternal melody applied to the author’s dramatic work. We also presented the position of incest within Nastasijević’s poetic, prose and dramatic work. The first part of the analysis of Nastasijević’s dramatic oeuvre is devoted to the interpretation of the play The Treasure of Međulužje in the context of folklore and modern literary influences, followed by a comparative analysis of the motif of brother-sister incest in Trakl’s poetry and Nastasijević’s play At “The Eternal Tap”. The last part of this paper is dedicated to the thematization of incest in two of Nastasijević’s plays from modern life.
