Summary/Abstract: GDP is a measure commonly used to assess the economic level of a country. In addition to its many virtues, this indicator has certain weaknesses, especially concerning the social aspects of economic growth. Among the numerous measures that take into account social aspects, the social progress index known as The Social Progress Index (SPI) deserves attention. The article attempts to search for correlations between the level of this index and seventeen variables describing income disparities and the redistributive, tax and social policies of the EU27 countries in 2021. The statistics show a significant correlation between the SPI index and the level of income inequality and the scale of redistribution. At the same time the paper indicates a high level of income-wealth inequality in Poland. The causes of these inequalities identified in the article mean that actions aimed at reducing them are necessary, but at the same time require major changes in economic and social policy.
