Summary/Abstract: The article examines the elements comprising the apse decoration of the Church of the Virgin Eleousa at Veljusa. These elements include a depiction of the Hetoimasia at the centre and images of the Church Fathers. The interpretation of these images is situated within the ideological and artistic context of the period in which the wall paintings were created. Particular attention is given to the Church Fathers’ images and their relationship to specific liturgical practices that influenced the formation of their iconography.
