Summary/Abstract: Theodor Kiriacoff was a well‑known name among theatre lovers and theatre critics of both the interwar and post‑war periods. In Chișinău, Iași, and Bucharest, the Bessarabian stage designer enjoyed well‑deserved recognition thanks to the productions for which he created the costumes and set designs. To better understand the role played by Th. Kiriacoff in Romanian scenography, it is natural to turn to contemporary sources and trace the evolution of the genre he embraced, while also examining the level at which this art was practiced in the first half of the twentieth century, at the time of the painter’s emergence on the theatrical scene.
