SOCIAL CAPITAL IN HIGH SCHOOLS

Summary/Abstract: I will present James Coleman's theory on the factors that build social capital in schools, including the phenomenon of intergenerational closure. Coleman's conclusions on the differences in the functioning of public, private and Catholic schools lead me to conduct research on similar topics in Poland. Building social capital is hampered by systemic indicators—the shortening of high school duration and the one-dimensional perception of education as simply earning points. However, a well-thought-out strategy of ensuring adaptation and individualized work with students are mechanisms that supports the creation of strong bonds. As well as consensus among teachers concerning aims and modus operandi with students.
