Summary/Abstract: This paper is structured into thematic chapters, organized around the several topics found in the source material, mostly relating to economy. The chapter “Mala Kikinda in the Military Frontier Era” explores the development of the settlement up to its demilitarization in 1774, as well as the context of its incorporation into the Kikinda District in the same year. The chapter “The Predium of Bašaidˮ examines the characteristics of this uninhabited area and the leasing policies applied to it – starting with those affecting frontier communities between 1753 and 1774 and moving on to policies regarding individuals and predial associations. The chapter “The Ownership Controversy” addresses a misunderstanding stemming from a clerical error in the draft lease contract for the Predium of Bašaid, in which the community of Mala Kikinda was mistakenly named as the lessee instead of Velika Kikinda. Chapters “The Relocation of Mala Kikinda and the ‘Consolidation of the Kikinda District’” highlight two aspects of this gradual process. The first establishes a timeframe of the municipality’s submittal of the relocation request, and the second examines the motivation that stood behind such a move. The chapter “The Relocation of Mala Kikinda ʻfor the benefit of the community and the treasury’” provides detailed insight into the decision-making process and pivotal motivation in economic interests. It presents data on land resources, the potential gains and losses for the state treasury resulting from the relocation, and the preconditions necessary for its implementation. The chapter “The Settlement of Bulgarians in Mala Kikinda, ʻalias Lovrinʼˮ follows a parallel colonization process that catalyzed and consolidated the wish of Mala Kikinda’s inhabitants to move. This process culminated in the settlement of a Bulgarian community on the vacated land of Mala Kikinda and the founding of the village of Lovrin. As a kind of Epilogue, the chapter “The Founding of the Settlements of Bašaid and Lovrinˮ outlines the outcomes of the relocation decision and presents the earliest data on the circumstances under which these new settlements were established. The Appendix includes a list of 98 heads of households who participated in the relocation from Mala Kikinda to Bašaid.
