Summary/Abstract: In an environment, in whic homogenizing tendencies can threaten cultural diversity, composer Mihail Afanasiev’s contribution represents a bold affirmation of identity within the sphere of electronic music in the local context. M. Afanasiev explores and redefines identity through digital means and sophisticated technological processes, and applies them as compositional techniques to create a musical fabric connected to a geographically defined space. Afanasiev is an innovator in the world of electronic music in the Republic of Moldova and a pioneer who has transformed his technical experience into authentic artistic expression. In his sonic investigations, Afanasiev invents new technologies for “musical radiography” of specific spaces and generates new sound resources. His work “Relief ” (of the Republic of Moldova) is a reflection of these pioneering explorations in the field of electronic composition. Through his innovation, he emphasizes the importance of bringing to light distinct elements and their connection to the global soundscape, thus making a significant contribution to the academic electronic musicscape.
