The most prominent member of this family was Alexandru Sterca-Şuluţiu (1794-1867), bishop and first metropolitan of the Greek-Catholic Church, leader of the national struggle in Transylvania. Obviously, the purpose of this historical investigation is to bring to light a prominent figure of the Transylvanian intelligentsia from the 19th century and of Turda, who stood out through deeds and actions aimed at the spiritual and material uplifting of the Romanian community. Dionisie Sterca-Şuluţiu followed the family tradition of studying and rising up the social ladder through meritocracy. He was a professional in the legal field, completing his intellectual training at specialized schools in Transylvania, just as in the case of other great names of the Romanian nation, such as Avram Iancu, whom he met and collaborated with. The life and activity of Dionisie Sterca-Şuluţiu were influenced by the great moments of the 19th century, among which the Revolution of 1848-1849 stands out, during which he fought for the rights of his compatriots. Later, he continued his activity within the neo-absolutist, liberal and dualist regimes. His part of contribution to the Romanian Diet of Transylvania from Sibiu is noteworthy. Dionisie Sterca-Şuluţiu's professional fulfilment came towards the end of his life, when he became a judge in Turda and was decorated by the emperor of Vienna. Aware of the mission of the Romanian intellectual from Transylvania, at the end of the 19th century, who must take care of the good of the nation of which he is a part, Dionisie Sterca-Şuluţiu left his entire fortune for the benefit of the Romanian school in Turda.
