Summary/Abstract: The focus of this article is the escalating controversy between Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire, within the coalition of the Central Powers mainly in 1917. At-tempts made by the two “great powers” Germany and Austria-Hungary to bring balance to relations have no serious effect. And that is because, in the end, the differences relate to territorial claims: for the Ottoman Empire, the participation of its troops instead of German ones on the fronts of the Balkans should be compensated with lands to which the Kingdom of Bulgaria has historical, but in some cases insufficiently substantiated contractual rights. There is no balance because the policy of the two empires mentioned above is generally pro-Turkish.
