NEW FACTS ABOUT THE MILITARY OPERATION TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE KOBADIN FORTIFIED POSITION AND COMMENTS ON THE EVENTS IN VIENNA (OCTOBER 1916)

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes materials from the Neue Freie Presse, which was a leading print newspaper in Vienna and Austria-Hungary, respectively. The newspaper published brief but informative news about the military operation to gain control of the so called Kobadin fortified position on the Dobrudzha Front. It is pointed out that the con-vincing victory which had been won on October 21, 1916 was of crucial significance for Bulgarian troops and their allies. Since they seized the strategic initiative it was logical to expect that during the following few days they would capture the defensive line Cernavoda – Constanta and in the near future would push out permanently the opposing Romanian, Russian and Serbian troops from the whole territory of Dobrudzha.
