Summary/Abstract: The historical narrative presents the wealthy and influential Shumen family Dimitrievi through the prism of their children’s fate. The family starts with the decision of the economically prosperous Hadji Dimitraki to be related to the authoritative Hadji Sava, marrying his daughter Elena. Their son Panayot Dimitriev has four children who inherit not only wealth but also the interest in science. According to the genealogy, the family has two daughters (Maria, Elenka) and two sons (Iliya and Panko). Elenka is the first Bulgarian girl who graduated from the American Girls’ College. Maria became wife of Dr. Andrey Parushev, a member of the Constituent Assembly and the Second Grand National Assembly of the Parliament, a community culture center activist, a medicine graduate in Bucharest, who specialized in Italy and France. The sons, Iliya and Panko, graduated from Robert College. General Iliya Dimitriev became the first Bulgarian military attache in Belgrade, the initiator of the Military News newspaper. Higher education and good manners help the family meet interesting people and turn them into part of the Bulgarian post-liberation elite.
