Summary/Abstract: After the end of the Second World War, under the leadership of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, systematic research on Slovak dialects outside the home country began. The final result of extensive field research on these dialects in the former Yugoslavia was the monograph “Speech of Slovaks in Yugoslavia” by Jozef Štolc. In this paper, we present partial results of current research on Slovak dialects in Serbia and Croatia, five decades after the publication of the aforementioned monograph and seven decades after the first comprehensive research on dialects conducted in the South Slavic environment. By examining dialect features not only from linguistic but also from historical and cultural perspectives, we aim to contribute to the body of knowledge about Slovak-Serbian and Slovak-Croatian relations, which are highly valuable both for Slovak linguistics and for contemporary Slavistics in the broader context.
